Don't show my double chin, photoshop my wrinkle -- these are just some of the comments we get every time a person poses in front of our camera. Don't get us wrong. Those characteristics are there but more often than not, the client has to point it out before we even notice it on the image.
In our headshots sessions, clients see the result of their shot instantaneously through our monitor so we can discuss how to move past the 'imperfection' they see. Sometimes, the 'imperfection' gets blown out of proportion that the person actually thinks he or she is ugly. We've had one where she totally felt not beautiful and when she saw the photo we did of her, she never realised how beautiful she was. She went on to say how good she felt after our headshot session with her. The grasp of the 'imperfection' on a person brings about low self esteem to say the least.
This brings to mind the popular Dove Real Beauty Sketches advert. If you have not watched it or would like to watch it again, click on the link below. It is a good reminder that people we meet move past the imperfections we see. Since they do, perhaps it is a good indication that we do the same.
