We had the privilege of taking the headshot of our naturopath and friend, Claudia, who had some interesting insight about our headshot session. It will not suffice if we write it in prose so we thought of allowing her to talk about what she was thinking of as she was going through the headshot session.
Bernie: Claudia, for the benefit of our readers, tell us a bit more about yourself.
Claudia: I work as a naturopath and as a naturapath, I help people in their journey towards health. As such, I offer naturopathic treatments, herbal remedies and lifestyle advice to those seeking to live a healthier life. I also give professional advice regarding nutrition, lifestyle, well-being among others. (Note: get to know more about Claudia at http://www.journeyofhealth.co.nz )
Bernie: What were your initial thoughts/expectations prior to the headshot session?
Claudia: I used to be very uncomfortable in front of the camera and having my photo taken because I was obese. I then changed my nutrition and outlook towards my health so I started eating healthy. That resulted to a weight loss of around 40kg which was great. However, I still felt uncomfortable in front of the camera even if I have already achieved my ideal weight. So prior to the shoot, I still had the uncomfortable feeling towards it.
Bernie: Please relay to us your thoughts as you were being photographed.
Claudia: I felt comfortable straight away. The atmosphere created by Bernie and Allan was very relaxing and fun which basically distracted me from my negative “camera” thoughts.
Bernie: What prompted the change from being uncomfortable to being comfortable in front of the camera?
Claudia: As the images were being shown to me during the shoot, I saw that the photos reflected or highlighted my good features so this helped me become even more comfortable in front of the camera. Since the images reinforced my good features, it shifted my attention from the features that I did not like to the ones that I like, and the example for this would be my eyes which I never really focussed on before.
Bernie: Any advice for anyone wanting a headshot taken?
Claudia: Trust Allan and Bernie, their process and taste. Don’t be afraid to communicate how you feel about being photographed and enjoy!
